What is it?
Hot flashes are one of the symptoms of the menopause and perimenopause. It is often experienced as a feeling of intense heat which could be accompanied by sweating and rapid heartbeat. Those feelings can last two or three minutes.

Where do they start?
For most women, this sensation of heat starts in the face and then is spread to the whole body. Your skin could also become hot to the touch.

When does this sensation appear?
Hot flashes may start to happen several years before menopause and last for years afterwards. Some women are never subject to that.
Hot flashes could be experienced a few time a week or constantly throughout the day but frequency decreases over time! If they occur at night they are called “night sweats”.
